How to Cook a Roomali Roti

Firstly, pre heat the tawa over your stove to reach a high temperature. Roll the roomali dough thinly to the desired diameter making sure it isn’t larger than your tawa. Put the thinly rolled dough over the tawa and cook on each side. If properly heated your roti should take only seconds on each side to cook. Serve your roti straight away for the best taste and texture.

How to Season a Black Iron Tawa

Your new tawa will arrive unseasoned and may look to be ‘rusty or scratched’ this is because it will still have the manufacturers protective coating. This coating protects the tawa during transit. To begin thoroughly remove any of the manufacturer’s protective oil and rust before drying completely. You might see bits of the black surface peeling away; this is completely normal.

Once dry wipe the tawa with a thin layer of oil using a clean cloth. Turn the heat up high on your hob and burn this oil off. Let it cool and then your tawa is ready to use.

Cleaning a Black Iron Tawa

Do not use detergents or washing liquid to clean your tawa. To clean your tawa after use rinse with hot water only and gently scrap off any food particles with a non metallic sponge. Once the tawa is dry place over a high heat to burn off any remaining food particles ready for the next time you cook.
